Africa investor to profile African capital markets at Index Series Summit

By Wade | June 4, 2010

Johannesburg, New York, 4 June 2010: Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment research and communications group, announced today that the Africa investor Index Series Summit, to be held in association with the New York Stock Exchange, will profile Africa’s foremost listed companies and stock exchanges to the international investment community.

The Index Series Summit is now firmly established as a platform for US and global institutional investors and pension funds to engage African capital market leaders. Africa investor, Africa’s leading benchmark and index provider, will host this year’s annual Summit to present African capital market opportunities to global pension funds seeking exposure to African markets.

During the recent Africa-France Summit, Donald Kaberuka, African Development Bank president, urged foreign investors to invest in Africa, where improving governance and transparency has made it possible to reduce business risks on the continent. Mr Kaberuka will be a guest speaker at this year’s Summit. Other speakers include Arnold Ekpe, CEO, Ecobank; Geoffrey White, CEO, Lohnro; James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Bank; Arunma Oteh, SEC; Chris Grune, State Street Global Advisors, and Donald Elefson, manager of the Erste Group Frontier Emerging Markets Strategy Co-Lead Portfolio. Heads of the leading stock exchanges across Africa have also confirmed their participation.

During the Summit, Africa investor will facilitate a series of one-on-one meetings for investors with African companies and fund managers.

Commenting on the Summit, Hubert Danso, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Africa investor, said; “The increasing interest from global pension funds to increase their discretionary allocations to Africa needs to be met with constructive and professional engagement if the opportunity is to be translated. We are delighted to be able to host such an important platform to facilitate this potential.”
The Africa investor Index Series Summit will be held on 17 September 2010, at the New York Stock Exchange, in partnership with NYSE Euronext, Thomson Reuters, Standard Bank, the African Development Bank, the African Securities Exchanges Association, the UN Office for Partnerships and the NEPAD Business Group.
