By Shanna | February 16, 2010
Harare, Zimbabwe; 16 February 2010: Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment and communications group, today announced the highly acclaimed winners of its prestigious 2010 Africa investor Tourism Awards.
The Africa investor (Ai) Tourism Investor Awards were created to showcase Africa’s opportunities and achievements in the tourism sector to the rest of the world, collectively raise awareness about Africa as a tourism destination and reward those groups developing the African tourism industry as a vehicle to drive sustainable economic growth.
The awards were presented at a high-profile ceremony attended by over 350 guests, which was officially opened by H.E Amai Joice Mujuru, Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. Commenting on the Awards the Vice President commended Africa investor for taking the leadership to establish these innovative awards and congratulated the award nominees and winners for their dedication.
The shortlisted submissions and candidates in 12 Award categories were judged on the basis of key financial indicators, the sustainability of projects and major value added contributions. All winners faced down significant international competition to emerge as definitive leaders in the tourism industry. For the full list of winners, please see below.
The prestigious African Tourism Minister of the Year was awarded to Hon. Catherine Namugala, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources, Zambia, for her dynamic efforts to attract investment into Zambia’s tourism sector.

Africa investor’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Hubert Danso, commented on the awards: “We are truly delighted with the calibre and commitment of this year’s nominees and winners. Their dedication to Africa’s tourism industry should serve as inspiration not only to their peers in Africa, but in many cases they outperformed their international counterparts.”
The Awards followed Africa investor’s Tourism Investment Summit, which reviewed the key developments and issues impacting Africa’s tourism investment landscape. The Summit brought together over 350 international authorities to examine major tourism infrastructure investment and privatisation opportunities across Africa, and, for the first time, Africa investor hosted an Infrastructure and Tourism Investment Roundtable with the Government of Zimbabwe, to showcase their portfolio of privatisation, infrastructure, tourism and mining investment opportunities.
Summit sponsors and partners include the Government of Zimbabwe, African Sun, Afrexim, Cresta Hospitality Group, NetOne, Native Investment Group, The Regional Tourism Organization of Southern Africa (RETOSA), CNN International, Meikles, NEPAD Business Group, NEPAD, Africa Project Access, TICAD/UNDP, China-Africa Business Council, Reconnect Africa and The Standard.
