Tusker Lager Raises Over Kshs 1.3 M For UK’s Tusk Trust

By abby | April 24, 2008

Tusker, East Africa’s number one lager has raised a staggering amount of money for TUSK Trust, by donating 5p from every sale of Tusker premium lager in the UK.

Tusk Trust is a dynamic UK based wildlife charity with over 17 years experience of conserving wildlife, promoting education and supporting community development programmes throughout Africa including Kenya.

The Trust is involved in the community development in Masaai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo areas.

To celebrate the occasion the famous actor John Challis, kindly made the cheque presentation to Tusk Trust for Kshs 1.3 million (£10,434,) at the Glass House restaurant in Worcester.

John Challis was one of the inaugural patrons for the Tusk Trust and has generously given much of his time to the charity over the last fifteen years and certainly caused a stir in Worcester for the presentation. John says “It is always a pleasure to work with Tusk Trust and it is great to see Tusker a genuine African lager raising so much money for the charity in the UK. People have said I have an almost ecclesiastical zeal for the work Tusk Trust do, but that is because it is so important. This was one of the first charities to get local people involved in the preservation of Africa’s incredible wild life. I am hoping one day to make a series of documentaries on this work.”

His Royal Highness Prince William has granted his Royal Patronage and the charity also boasts a large number of UK celebrity supporters such as Rory Bremner, John Challis, Ronnie Wood and Griff Rhys Jones. Tusk provides practical, logistical and financial support to a portfolio of over thirty different field projects spread across 17 African countries.

Peter Karsten, Distributor of Tusker in the UK comments: “We are so thrilled that this initiative has raised so much money for the Tusk Trust and that John gave up his valuable time to present the cheque on our behalf as well as entertaining us all afternoon. The Tusk do in Africa is so important and as Tusker is a genuine imported African lager we feel it is very important to give something back to Africa. We are looking forward to raising even more funds for TUSK in 2008”

Tusker is an award winning genuine imported lager, which has won Gold on numerous occasions at the highly respected “Monde Selection” international beer awards. Research shows this is what drinkers are looking for in the UK. By drinking Tusker they have allowed the brand to make a contribution to charity while enjoying East Africa’s favourite lager. Tusker is brewed using the highest quality equatorial malted barley grown at the base of Mt. Kenya and in the Kenyan Rift Valley. It is a crisp and clean tasting lager making it a great thirst quencher as well as the ideal accompaniment to food.

Tusker’s heritage dates back to 1922. It is loved by East African’s and has become part of the national fabric. Tusker lager is named in memory of the brewery’s founder George Hurst, who was killed by an elephant in 1923. The iconic elephant logo and distinctive black and gold colouring are sure to make this brand stand out from the crowd.
