Commenting on the awards, Hubert Danso, CEO and Vice Chairman of Ai stated, “We are delighted to report that the award winners have already made an impact and contributed to the marked increase in venture and private equity-style investment into African project development platforms.” He further stated, “We congratulate all the awards winners and look forward to inspiring the industry to drive and accelerate their projects to financial close.”

The Awards ceremony took place during the 3rd Ai CEO African Infrastructure Project Developers Summit co-hosted with Africa50, in Durban at the Southern Sun Maharani Hotel in Durban, South Africa.
The Summit launched the Benchmark for Investing in African Infrastructure Project Development (I4PD Benchmark) and received keynote addresses from His Excellency Mr Macky Sall, the President of Senegal and Her Excellency Mrs Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, the President of Mauritius.

The Summit had three primary objectives which were to foster a dialogue to:
1. Stimulate the necessary political will and processes that enable the continent to build a reputation of fast-tracking projects to financial close, within global norm time frames;
2. Drive down the perceived and actual risks and increase the competitiveness of African project development as an asset class; and
3. Better understand pension and sovereign funds so that relevant African stakeholders can develop instruments and platforms that are sensitive to their investment criteria.
